I think this can happen to all of us sometimes but it's important to not get discouraged and to stay on track with our goals. I guess you might say everyday life almost held me back from posting something this week. But since my personal goal is to post something on Wednesdays, I decided to go ahead and share what’s on my mind.
First, I must say I’m thrilled about all the efforts I’ve seen lately of so many reaching out to help each other ( e.g.
Job Angels,
My Turn Day, etc.). I have to confess though that I’ve felt a little let down that my efforts lately coaching a few friends/referrals on their job searches have not yet resulted in any great success stories. And I also miss volunteering in my community lately since family and work commitments take up most my time right now. So what now?
I recognize that there are times in my life when I can commit to volunteer efforts and times when I have limitations due to work and family. What I need to remember is that I can still make a difference, even when it doesn’t meet my ideal definition. In the short term, I am committing myself to at least 2 hours per week (as it fits my family/work schedule) to counsel friends/referrals who need assistance. This might include late nights on the phone, weekend runs or walks with those in need who exercise - whatever works.
Whether or not I feel rewarded by the results, I need to contribute what I can when I can. I have to remember that it’s not all about me and my results. It’s about doing what I can in the true spirit of giving. That’s what others have done for me and I commit to do more as I can and PAY IT FORWARD!
