I may be the oddball here, but I have never been all that interested in New Year’s resolutions. When I remember to set them, I usually forget them by Spring. Maybe this has something to do with all the media hype around weight loss and self-improvement that typically slows down after January. Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of room improvement. I have just preferred to take more of a “new day” vs. a “new year” approach.
I started considering this after reading
RecruiterGuy’s differentiation between goals and resolutions. It motivated me to create some measurable goals for this year – 3 personal and 3 professional. I am passionate about 5 out of 6 so it will be interesting to see how that affects my results.
Resolutions may work for you, and if so, great! But if not, you might want to document a few personal and professional goals that you can start measuring if you haven’t already. You can always start small and then add more throughout the year. That’s my plan :-).
In past years I have resisted this in January, cutting myself some slack after surviving another exhausting holiday season as a working mom. But this year I have read blog after blog and tweet after tweet with great suggestions and resources to help push me along. Your goals might include
joining a professional association or finally getting onboard with
using social media in your job search. Whatever it is, I have no doubt there are resources out there to help you with goal setting if you need them. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please let me know and I’ll help you look.
Happy New Year!!
