Hello all. This is my very first foray into the fine art of blogging. Someone told me to talk about what I know...so this is what I know. Maybe some of you will find it of interest...maybe it will just be a case of me sharpening my pencil for future blogging adventures.
A few months ago I transitioned into a new role within my company. I was uncertain and none too excited at the prospect; however having been in a position where I was deeply dissatisfied with my existing position, grateful for the opportunity to try something new.
That something new ended up being something not altogether new but different enough that it offered an opportunity to add to my existing skill set on a limited basis. So I settled into the position firmly believing that very little would be offered to challenge me.
My first impression of my new team was that they were amazingly giving and welcoming people. This first impression has been reinforced time and again throughout my tenure in this department.
My first impression of my new job was that I was correct in thinking it wouldn't offer much more than what I already new with the exception of learning a new system.
My second impression of my new job was that I had no idea how truly little I did know about this job.
After working with the aforementioned team for a few weeks, I discovered that my past experience in "recruiting" (yes - I am a recruiter) was, indeed, just the tip of the iceberg.
With the advent of Web 2.0 and social networking, recruiting has taken on a whole new face, body structure and personality.
Words I had never heard before...Twitter, MySpace, FaceBook, Ning...I mean...what WERE these things?
Following crash courses in a few of the above, admittedly I am still very much a novice. However, even such a "non-social networker" as myself can see the benefits in this new age of recruiting and the propsect of even greater things to come.
The ability to reach the masses and network in so many different directions and within so many arenas is staggering to say the least.
In short, I believe a recruiting revolution has begun while I was not paying attention.
With that said, I have made it a mission to become a solider in this revolution and am arming myself with all of the weapons available in this technological arsenal.
I would love to hear from any of you who are, like me, coming in at this late date and attempting to catch up with what nearly passed me by...so drop me a line.
