It is like those old sneaker ads used to say. You have got to "Just Do It" if you want to get it done.
About a week ago I found someone that had a near perfect resume for a job that I was trying to fill. I spoke with them over the following days and they were as interested in the job as I was interested in getting them hired. Their resume was missing their current job and about the last 3 years of their working history. I asked the candidate to updated it and send it to me.
A few days later I still did not have the resume and so I started to call around to a few other people that I knew were also a good fit for the job. I left a message for my first candidate and he called me back almost right away. He said he was still interested in the job but just had not had a chance to updated his resume but said he would get to it before the weekend.
By Wednesday of the following week I had made the offer to to a young lady that was also a good fit but that would have really been my second choice. I spoke with my first candidate again on Thursday when he called and explained that I could no longer wait. He was frustrated with me but said he understood. The sad part was that his resume was still not updated.
If you do not keep an updated resume or profile where recruiters and staffing personnel can find it then you are only cheating yourself. I know that some people look at building or updating a resume like they look at doing taxes. They try to put it off all of the time until they just can not avoid it any longer. This is a terrible mistake to make and can honestly keep your career from moving forward in some cases.
If you are a person that really hates to work on your resume then you owe it to yourself to at least do your resume as often as you hopefully do your taxes. A resume that is at least a year old can easily be added to when you get a call from a recruiter trying to get you in front of a manager for what could be that perfect job we are all looking for.
So grab your resume and "Just Do It!"
