$27 million in job training grants to benefit veterans.
Just read an article indicating that the Department of Labor will provide over 16,000 veterans with access to job training and other employment resources. Funds will be awarded on a competitive basis to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, including faith-based and community organizations.
The initiative provides support to two programs:
a) The Homeless Veterans Reintegration program (HVRP) which focuses on providing homeless veterans with employment support and
b) The Veterans’ Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) which provides assistance to veterans from targeted groups to overcome employment barriers and ease their transition into unsubsidized jobs.
The assistance will be provided in the form of grants and it is expected to assist more than 12,500 veterans participating in the HVRP and almost 4,000 participating in the VWIP.
The HVRP grants will provide recipients with occupational, classroom and on-the-job training, as well as job search and placement assistance, including follow-up services. The VWIP grants will provide recipients with skills assessments, individual job counseling, labor market information, classroom or on-the-job training, skills upgrading and retraining, placement assistance and follow-up services.
Recipients of both HVRP and VWIP grants will apply through state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, including faith-based and community organizations.
