Maintaining your Settings options on My Talent Network
When you first join My Talent Network there are a number of settings that you should review and that you have the options to change.

This tutorial covers the settings available to you with your My Talent Network membership.

Your Settings

Step 1 - Request Sent

Step 1 Getting There

Your settings are available via a link called My Settings in the welcome box at the top of the right-hand column. Click on this to display the My Settings page.

My Friends

Step 2 Account Settings

The important things here are the following -

  • You can change your Email Address if necessary.
  • You can change your display Name if you want.
  • You can hide your age and gender if you want.
  • Your location is optional.
  • The Page Address is useful to link to from another website or blog.
  • The Add By Phone email address you are provided with to send photos from your phone MUST be kept secure. If someone else gets this they can post to your account. If this happens you can Generate a New Email Address to stop their access.
  • Be sure to click the Save button after making changes.
  • Be sure to follow the About Me, Privacy and Email links on the left-hand side for further settings.
My Friends Step 3 About Me Settings

The questions found here are designed to let people know a little bit about you - your interests, your current employment, etc. Knowing this, you should still only include just what you want other people to know about. Don't feel obligated to offer details about yourself that might make you feel uncomfortable.

Over time the questions here may change, but you'll always receive notice when this happens.

Questions marked with a padlock icon will remain private and can only be seen by an Admin.

Only those marked with an asterisk are required, the rest you can skip if you'd like.

Be sure to click on the Save button if you make changes.

My Friends Step 4 Privacy Settings

Privacy settings are important and you should review these carefully.

Most are straightforward but I suggest you don't restrict something unless you have a good reason. Limiting view and comment rights can reduce your visibility quite a bit and restrict your potential networking connections.

Approving comments can be good if you have abusive comments, but it also removes that immediacy members like - My Talent Network is pretty well moderated so we'd recommend giving it a shot without this option at first.

If you are using the blog capabilities of your account (AND WE HOPE YOU ARE!) you will probably want to notify site update services whenever you post to your blog. Be sure to activate this setting if this is the case.

The Latest Activity list is useful for notifying members when you change something or add new content. You should read the accompanying notice regards the things that never appear in Latest Activity.

My Friends Step 5 Email Settings

These settings determine which emails you receive from My Talent Network.

Be careful about turning email notifications off as you may lose the ability to stay in touch with your activities on My Talent Network.

As My Talent Network grows you may want to start with all notifications enabled and work back a bit based on what you're inbox begins to look like.

Clear My Follow List - If you have been following a discussion in the forum and no longer wish to, you can turn it off with this button. Just be aware that this will clear 'following' for all your discussions and blog posts.

Be sure to click on the Save button if you make changes.
